OREANDA-NEWS  Rosneft plans to conduct a comprehensive study of the North Sakhalin subsoil area of federal significance in 2023-2027, for which the company received a license in April 2021.

The documents prepared for environmental impact assessment state that the company plans to conduct 3D seismic exploration (in the amount of up to 1.2 thousand square kilometers), to study the engineering and geological conditions of the site. Bathymetric, hydromagnetic and hydroacoustic surveys, geochemical studies of bottom sediments, as well as a number of other works are planned.

"Seismic exploration will be carried out from specialized research (geophysical) vessels. At the same time, escort vessels will move near the research vessel to ensure its unhindered movement with towed outboard equipment, as well as for the purpose of inspecting the work site to identify any navigational obstacles," the document says.

Among the applicant vessels are "Academician Nemchinov", "Vyacheslav Tikhonov" and "Otto Schmidt".

As reported, in April 2021, the government granted Rosneft the right to use the North Sakhalin subsoil area of federal significance for geological exploration, exploration and production of hydrocarbons carried out under a combined license.

The North Sakhalin site is located in the water area of the continental shelf of the Sea of Okhotsk, in the northern part of the island. Sakhalin. Geographically and administratively, the object is located in the Sakhalin Bay and is adjacent to the Okhinsky district of the Sakhalin region.

The projected hydrocarbon resources within the site based on the assessment of hydrocarbon resources as of January 1, 2009 are: oil (extracted) - 38 million tons in category D1, 3.2 million tons in category D2; gas - 68.75 billion cubic meters in category Dl, 395.8 billion cubic meters in category D1, 33.5 billion cubic meters by category D2; condensate (extracted) - 19.3 million tons by category D1, 1.6 million tons by category D2.
