OREANDA-NEWS In the first five months of 2026, the trade turnover between the United States and China decreased by 3.5 percent. This is reported by TASS with reference to the data of the General Customs Administration of the People's Republic of China.

According to statistics, from January to May, countries began to trade less with each other. The trade turnover dropped to $231.25 billion. Exports of Chinese goods decreased by 2.7 percent to $172.46 billion, while shipments from the United States decreased by 5.5 percent to $58.78 billion.

During the same period, China's trade with Europe grew by 13.9 percent year-on-year, to $364.15 billion. Chinese exports to the European Union (EU) increased by 16.4 percent, to $253.97 billion. Shipments of European goods to China increased by 8.6 percent, to $110.19 billion.

As previously reported in China Daily, if Brussels continues to tighten protectionist policies aimed at protecting its green economy, Chinese companies will not be ready to enter the European Union market. The European Union's protectionist measures have already seriously undermined China's exports of environmentally friendly products to the EU, as well as its investments in the continent's green industry. If this policy continues, Beijing will be forced to take retaliatory measures.
