Furniture sales in Russia decreased

OREANDA-NEWS In the first three months of 2026, furniture sales in Russia fell by about ten percent year-on-year. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to data from the Association of Furniture and Woodworking Industry Enterprises (AMDPR).
The main reasons are the cancellation of a massive preferential mortgage in July 2024 and rising prices. In the first case, developers reduced purchases of products for furnishing apartments by 20-25 percent, which affected the industry.
At the same time, the overall cost of furniture is rising below inflation, but individual items are becoming more expensive quite quickly. For example, cabinets for the dining room and living room increased in price by 15.3 percent, kitchen furniture sets — by 9.7 percent, kitchen tables — by 8.9 percent.
Alexander Shestakov, President of AMDPR and CEO of the First Furniture Factory, explained the increase in the cost of products by the need to raise salaries for employees, increase the cost of logistics and maintenance of equipment, as well as certain types of raw materials.
Nina Belova, Director of Quality and Service at Hoff hypermarket chain, primarily points to the increase in value added tax (VAT), additional duties, complex logistics and sanctions affecting imported components.
Maxim Valetsky, co-founder of the Mr.Doors furniture studio, explained that small manufacturers are forced to either take out expensive loans or close down. According to Belova, the general situation in the national economy also affects the furniture industry.
Earlier, experts estimated that furnishing a one-room apartment, excluding repairs, as of 2026 would cost Russians at least 150-200 thousand rubles.
