OREANDA-NEWS France, the second largest wine producer in the world, this year will face the lowest output level since at least 1995 - only 36 million hectoliters, according to an analysis by RIA Novosti of data from the statistical agency of the French Ministry of Agriculture (Agreste) and the International Organization of Viticulture and Winemaking (OIV).

"According to estimates set for October 1, 2025, French wine production in 2025 has been revised downward and is expected to reach 36 million hectoliters. This volume, close to the already low figure of 2024, will be significantly lower than the average production over the past five years (-16%)," analysts at the French Ministry of Agriculture's statistical agency predict.

The main reason is bad weather and fires caused by it. So, in August, many regions of the country faced severe drought, which led to a decrease in yields, accelerated the ripening of grapes and at the same time slowed down its growth. As a result, the berries became smaller and contained less juice. In addition, due to this extreme heat, a large fire occurred in the south of the country, which destroyed a significant part of the vineyards.
