OREANDA-NEWS In Russia, it was proposed to ban large margins on goods for retail chains. This is reported by the Izvestia newspaper with reference to the initiative of the deputies of the Fair Russia faction.
The deputies wanted to limit the margins in stores to 15 percent. They justify this decision by following the presidential decree on stabilizing the cost of food products.
"According to various studies and investigative journalism, the mark—up on goods (the difference between the purchase and retail value for consumers) ranges from 10 percent for socially significant goods to 200 percent and even 300 percent for non-food and individual food products," the explanatory note says.
In support of the project, parliamentarians cite the practice of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), which regularly identifies unjustified price increases. In particular, in the fall, the agency announced a one hundred percent overestimation of the cost of bread. High margins, the authors emphasize, allow retail chains to steadily increase profits. In addition to restrictions, they also suggest indicating the cost of goods on the price tags.
As previously reported by analysts of the Check Index service of the OFD Platform, in January-April, the increase in the number of receipts in grocery stores was six percent compared to the same period last year, and in January-September — 3.5 percent. Evotor, the developer of the cash register software, noted that the number of purchases in department stores remained at the same level for three quarters, increased by 1.5 percent in specialized stores, and dropped by seven percent in butcher shops.
