OREANDA-NEWS The cost of salmonid fish in Russia will increase in the foreseeable future against the background of a sharp drop in catch rates. This was stated by the head of Rosrybolovstvo Ilya Shestakov on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF). His words are quoted by TASS.

The salmon family includes such fish species as salmon, pink salmon, chum salmon, sockeye salmon, trout (lake and stream trout), coho salmon and chinook salmon. This year, the volume of catch will be about 100-110 thousand tons, said Shestakov. The final result will be noticeably lower than in the previous few years.

Against this background, the head of the industry organization predicted a "compression" of salmon consumption in Russia and an increase in the price of popular fish species. This year, the catch rate is almost 2.5 times lower than last year. "Putin's campaign is already coming to an end. This year it is completely unsuccessful," stated Shestakov.

Serious problems with fishing were previously reported by the Governor of the Kamchatka Territory, Vladimir Solodov. Putin's campaign this year turned out to be a failure and lagged almost tenfold behind the record figure of 2018, the head of the region stated. He explained such dynamics by the negative impact of global ocean warming and the change in fish migration routes.
