OREANDA-NEWS. A detachment of six large landing ships (BDK) of the Northern and Baltic fleets of Russia arrived in Sevastopol, the press service of the Black Sea Fleet reported on Thursday.

“A detachment of large landing ships of the Russian Navy, consisting of: Korolev, Minsk, Kaliningrad, Pyotr Morgunov, George the Victorious and Olenegorsky miner, completed the inter-naval transition around Europe. At the moment, the ships are entering to the main base of the Black Sea Fleet - the city of Sevastopol," the fleet said in a statement.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that six large landing ships of the Baltic and Northern fleets "are making a planned transition from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea, where they will take part in naval exercises."

According to the press service of the Black Sea Fleet, in Sevastopol, the crews of the BDK will conduct a post-trip inspection, replenish stocks of fuels and lubricants, drinking water and food, and will also have the opportunity to rest.

"In the near future, a detachment of large landing ships of the Russian Navy will continue to carry out tasks in accordance with the combat training plan of the Navy," the report says.

On February 4, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that a detachment of the large landing craft of the Northern and Baltic fleets arrived in the Syrian port of Tartus, where the base of the Russian Navy is located, as part of the exercises.

On February 7, the press service of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation reported that a detachment of warships, consisting of the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov, the frigate Admiral Kasatonov and the large anti-submarine ship Vice Admiral Kulakov, entered the Mediterranean Sea after passing through the Strait of Gibraltar.

In early February, after passing the Suez Canal, a detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Federation headed by the flagship, the missile cruiser Varyag, entered the Mediterranean Sea. This detachment includes the large anti-submarine ship "Admiral Tributs" and the large sea tanker "Boris Butoma".

On January 20, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the start of a series of naval maneuvers involving more than 140 ships and vessels, over 10,000 military personnel. The exercises under the general leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Nikolai Evmenov are taking place in the waters of the seas adjacent to Russian territory, as well as in operationally important areas of the oceans, the military said. Separate exercises are held in the waters of the Mediterranean, North, Okhotsk Seas, in the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean and in the Pacific Ocean.

The maneuvers are taking place against the backdrop of a crisis in relations between Russia and NATO. The United States, other NATO countries and Ukraine have spoken about the concentration of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border and the threat of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On January 30, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev said that Russia does not want to fight with Ukraine, there is no threat from Moscow.
