OREANDA-NEWS  By the end of 2022, sales of electric vehicles worldwide increased by 55 percent compared to 2021. The International Energy Agency (IEA) revealed the scale of humanity's transition to eco-friendly transport in its review.

During the year, 10 million cars with electric motors were purchased in the world (including hybrids). In total, there were about 26 million electric cars on the roads all over the planet — 60 percent more than in 2021. According to the forecasts of the IEA, in 2023 sales of such cars will continue to grow and reach 14 million units - almost every fifth car sold in the world will be electric.

China turned out to be the world leader in sales of electric vehicles — according to the IEA, 60 percent of all new cars of this type were sold there. Experts also noted the rise in sales of electric cars in India, Thailand and Indonesia — in these countries, activity in this segment has almost tripled compared to 2021.

Earlier, the head of the IEA Fatih Birol predicted that by 2030 every second car sold in Europe, the USA and China will be electric. The organization also added that the energy crisis could push for faster development of environmentally friendly technologies in the world.
