OREANDA-NEWS There are currently 15 million surveillance cameras in Russia, but only 7 percent of them are "under smart services." Speaking about trends in the development of Smart City technologies, Alexey Palamarchuk, CEO of NtechLab, spoke about this at CIPR-2026.

Naming their total number, the expert noted that of the slightly more than five million cameras involved in the state segment, the proportion of "smart" cameras is more significant, but still does not reach even 30 percent.

According to him, Nizhny Novgorod, where the conference is taking place, is actively implementing an approach related to the multifunctionality of cameras, which Palamarchuk, "including taking into account the financial situation," considers one of the key ones in the coming years.

"Here, city cameras also work for security systems, and they also, for example, monitor urban transport traffic, they also monitor the filling of bins, they also monitor crowds of people, how queues form, and so on... That is, the same camera is actually filled with a lot of new meanings. (...) The infrastructure is being filled with new values and new benefits," the specialist shared.
