OREANDA-NEWS A magnetic storm has hit the Earth, according to data from the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
After midnight on Friday, June 5, the storm remained at the G1 (weak) level, reaching and exceeding the G2 (medium) level after 6 a.m., but never reaching the G3 (strong storm) level. Currently, the magnetic storm has subsided, but the magnetosphere remains agitated. A G1-level magnetic storm is expected to return before midnight.
Currently, the probability of a magnetic storm on Saturday, June 6, is 35 percent, and on Sunday, June 7, it is 7 percent.
Previously, experts expected an intense magnetic storm due to several clouds of plasma ejected by the Sun in the direction of the Earth as a result of a series of strong flares. However, the extreme predictions did not come true.
