OREANDA-NEWS  The ruling bloc of the Riga City Duma agreed with the previously expressed initiative to demolish the monument to the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin in the capital of Latvia, said the vice-speaker of the body Linda Ozola. Her words are transmitted by RIA Novosti.

"Pushkin's days in Kronwald Park are numbered," she said, stating that the monument is illegal. Ozola also said that the monument should quickly disappear from the urban environment of the Latvian capital.

The Kods Rīgai block, which initially put forward the initiative, justified the demolition of the monument by the need to prevent people from gathering next to it on Victory Day. The monument is considered illegal due to the fact that it was presented to the city by the Russian Embassy, and the monument was erected without observing all the necessary formalities.
