OREANDA-NEWSAustralian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called for the reform of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the empowerment of its staff.

In an interview with Sky News on Thursday night, the Australian leader said that, in his opinion, WHO specialists should receive the same powers as the “UN arms inspectors”, which will strengthen the organization’s potential in combating future outbreaks of disease.

"If we have an opportunity that could potentially save thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of lives, then we must realize it", said the Prime Minister. He noted that “the authority, like that of an arms inspector, would allow WHO staff to enter countries to investigate the source of outbreaks of disease without an invitation” and gain access to information cri3tical to tracking and controlling disease.

Australia currently has 6,659 coronavirus infections. Since January 25, when the first case of infection was detected in the country, 4,671 patients recovered, 75 patients died from the disease caused by the virus.
