OREANDA-NEWS Since October 14, China has been introducing a port fee for ships from the United States. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the statement of the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China.
The authorities will begin to charge ships owned or used by US companies, built in the country or flying its flag, as well as those ships in which American companies, other organizations or individuals directly or indirectly own 25 percent or more of the shares.
"Starting from October 14, a fee of 400 yuan (about $ 56) per ton of net will be charged, starting from April 17, 2026 — 640 yuan ($89) per ton of net, starting from April 17, 2027 — 880 yuan ($123) per ton of net, starting from April 17, 2028 — 1120 yuan ($157) per ton net," the agency explained.
The measures are explained as a response to the introduction of the US port fee for Chinese ships. The Chinese authorities warned that they would respond to the introduction of fees from Chinese-made vessels in the United States as early as April 2025.
Meanwhile, the administration of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, wants to ban airlines from China from flying over Russia when flights begin or end their route to the United States. American carriers have long criticized the current permission for companies from the People's Republic of China (PRC) to fly over the territory of the Russian Federation, provided that the US government has banned such flights to domestic airlines.
