China worsens economic growth forecasts
Source: OREANDA-NEWS
OREANDA-NEWS The Chinese authorities expect the country's economy to grow by 4.5-5 percent in 2026, although forecasts for 2025 were about 5 percent. This was reported by Kyodo with reference to Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Qiang.
The new target was the lowest since 1991. The agency cited the protracted crisis in the real estate sector as one of the reasons for the deteriorating expectations.
As Li Qiang noted, the changing external environment is putting more and more pressure on China and the geopolitical risks are growing. In addition, the dynamics of the global economy remains sluggish, and free trade is under serious threat. He also drew attention to the internal problems of the state. These include the imbalance between strong supply and weak demand, as well as difficulties in finding employment.
As a long-term growth goal, China is going to double its GDP per capita by 2035, reaching the level of a "moderately developed country." Another task is to "constantly increase our competitive advantages in the field of rare earths and rare metals."
