OREANDA-NEWS  Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he considers Russia's "positive decision" to withdraw troops beyond the Dnieper River in the Kherson region.

"Russia's decision is a positive decision. If [Russian President Vladimir Putin] takes part in the G20, we will discuss [the situation in Ukraine] there..." the Turkish head of state stressed.

According to Erdogan, if it is not possible to communicate with Putin during the summit, negotiations will continue in a telephone format.

As the Turkish President added, Ankara intends to continue to provide mediation efforts to resolve the situation in Ukraine.

"Now it would be unwise to name any date, to say when this work will end, when it will be completed," Erdogan added.

A special operation of the Russian Armed Forces is currently underway in Ukraine. Its beginning was announced on February 24 by Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, the purpose of the military actions is to demilitarize the neighboring country and denazify its authorities.

The decision to conduct the operation was the reason for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.
