OREANDA-NEWS The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said on Monday that he had gone on a visit to Ukraine and to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.

"I am on my way to Ukraine to meet with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. I will present a program of assistance in connection with the catastrophic flooding after the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP," he wrote on social networks.

"I will give an assessment of the situation at the Nuclear Power Plantand will rotate the IAEA staff at the station along with its strengthening," the head of the agency continued.

Grossi last week announced plans to visit Kiev and the Nuclear Power Plant.

Earlier, the IAEA reported that at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant "work continues to ensure the maximum supply of water for cooling in case the station can no longer use the reserves from the Kakhovsky reservoir." As explained in the agency, despite the fact that all six reactors of the NPP have been shut down, "they still need water to prevent the melting of fuel and the potential release of radioactive materials."

On the night of June 6, the valves collapsed, followed by other structures of the Kakhovskaya HPP, which led to uncontrolled discharge of water downstream of the Dnieper from the Kakhovsky reservoir, which is located on the territory of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Evacuation was required for residents of Novaya Kakhovka, Alyosha and Bare Pier. Emergency mode has been introduced.

Moscow said that a sabotage was committed at the Kakhovskaya Nuclear Power Plant, for which the Ukrainian side is responsible.
