OREANDA-NEWS. Israeli archaeologists have suggested that during the excavations they were able to detect the ruins of the ancient Philistine city  Cyclag. Oh was mentioned in the Bible. According to the scriptures in this city, David hid from the messengers of King Saul, who pursued him.

Researchers conducted excavations in the south-west of Israel and found the ruins of ancient Philistines settlements.  On top of them were artifacts of the reign of David.  Ruins were created around the XII-XI centuries BC.

Cyclag (synodal translation of the Bible - Ziklag) was allegedly located in the Negev desert in the south of modern Israel.  According to 1 Samuel, Tsiklag was ruled by the ruler of the Philistine city of Gath, Anchus.  When David, fleeing from the persecution of King Judea Saul, fled to Gath, Achish gave Tsiklag to his possession.  David used the city as a base for military campaigns against neighboring tribes, including the Amalekites.  Once, during the absence of the Jewish warriors, the Amalekites attacked Tsiklag, burned him, and took the inhabitants into slavery.  Returning to the devastated settlement, David went in pursuit and fought off the spoils and captives.

In 2015, Israeli archeology began excavations. The expedition was led by Joseph Garfinkel, the head of the Institute of Archeology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Researchers from the Macquarie University of Australia in Sydney, the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and specialists from the Israel Antiquities Authority also participated in the excavations.
