OREANDA-NEWS  In Russia, the state standard for bananas will appear for the first time, it will come into force in March. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Rosstandart document.

The standard will apply to fresh fruits, which will be sold in stores in the future, and when imported into Russia, they will be checked for compliance with the requirements for appearance, taste and smell, as well as the degree of maturity.

According to GOST, bananas should be only green or light green in color, maturing to consumer ripeness already in Russian warehouses and in other specially designated places. There is no more than one cut-out fruit in the brush, but with the remainder of the stem green. In general, it should contain at least three bananas, each at least 14 centimeters long. The rules stipulate that the fruits will have a light cucumber flavor and release milky juice when cut.

GOST is advisory in nature and serves as a guideline for manufacturers, the agency points out.
