OREANDA-NEWS   Since April 7, Japan has imposed a ban on the export of steel, aluminum and products made from them to Russia, according to the website of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of the country.

In addition, aircraft, spacecraft and engines for them, drones, construction equipment (excavators, bulldozers), electrical equipment (generators, navigation equipment), boilers, optical equipment (photographic equipment, binoculars), optical fiber, toys, etc. fell under export restrictions.

In addition, Japan has extended the decision to deprive Russia of the status of a favored nation in trade until 2024. Tokyo canceled the preferential regime in March last year. Imports from countries not included in the list of those with the most favored nation regime are subject to a basic tariff.

Japan, together with Western countries, has been imposing sanctions against Russia since the start of the special operation in Ukraine. On March 21, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited Kiev, where he met with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, and promised to allocate $30 million for the supply of non-lethal weapons to Ukraine.

In 2023, Tokyo also banned the import of vaccines, medical equipment, robots, radioactive materials, equipment for nuclear facilities, oil and natural gas exploration to Russia. In addition, the country has expanded the list of Russians against whom personal sanctions have been imposed. Maria Lvova-Belova, the Commissioner for Children's Rights under the President of Russia, was on the list;
philosopher Alexandra Dugin; Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, etc.

Russia calls the sanctions illegitimate and considers it necessary to lift them.
