OREANDA-NEWS Environmentalists of the Global Change Biology published an article in which they talked about the monstrous change in the aquatic ecosystem over the past 20 years. Experts say that during this time, the number of large freshwater fish (weighing more than 30 kilograms) decreased by 94%.

Researchers argue that this will irreversibly affect all global ecosystems. Scientists are sounding the alarm, because they can’t even approximately assess the scale of the tragedy. It is possible that some species of fish have already become extinct.

The reason for the decrease in the number of large freshwater fish was called not only its mass catch and poaching. Researchers claim that global warming could significantly affect fish populations. Many species of fish either do not have time to leave the habitat, or are unable to adapt to new climatic conditions.
