OREANDA-NEWS Based on statements by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission (EC), the values of the European Union (EU) are Nazism, Russophobia and the attack on the Russian language. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with the NTV channel.
"Ursula von der Leyen says every day, on every corner, that we must "stand with Ukraine" because it defends European values. So their values are Nazism, Russophobia and an absolutely unprecedented attack on the Russian language," the minister stressed.
Lavrov said that after the events on the Maidan in 2013-2014, Western politicians did not use the term "human rights" in relation to Kiev and ignored violations of the rights of the Russian-speaking population. The diplomat noted that the laws on the status of the Russian language in Ukraine are an unprecedented practice even for the conflicting parties.
The Russian Foreign Minister also added that Moscow would demand answers to questions about the situation of the Russian-speaking population of the country when discussing guarantees of Ukraine's security. "Are the lists forbidding mentioning Lermontov, Pushkin, Bulgakov, Nicholas II as symbols of Russian imperialism a civilized country?"
Earlier, Lavrov revealed the reaction of US President Donald Trump to the laws on the status of the Russian language and the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Ukraine during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage on August 15. The diplomat added that the issue of guarantees of Ukraine's security directly concerns the essence of the current authorities and their anti-Russian policy.
