OREANDA-NEWS The economic losses of Germany due to the effects of the pandemic, the Ukrainian conflict, and geopolitical instability over the past five years have amounted to 735 billion euros, according to TASS, citing the report of the Institute for Economic Research (IW).
Experts have calculated this figure by creating a hypothetical scenario where these events did not occur, which would have prevented the import of cheap Russian gas, negatively impacting the German industry. IW also acknowledged that it was challenging to assess the impact of each factor individually, as they intertwined with each other.
Germany is experiencing the longest period of economic stagnation since the Second World War, with GDP barely growing over the past five years. Against the backdrop of stagnation in 2023 and 2024, the country's GDP decreased by 0.3 and 0.2 percent, respectively.
Manufacturing output in Germany has declined by 15% since 2018, and the unemployment rate remains at its peak since October 2020.
