OREANDA-NEWS Pakistan expects to sign an agreement with Russia on the restoration and modernization of a steel mill in Karachi during Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif's visit to Moscow, scheduled for March, Pakistani Ambassador to Russia Faisal Niyaz Tirmizi told RIA Novosti.
The Pakistani Metallurgical Plant in Karachi was built with the assistance of the USSR in 1973. In July last year, Pakistan and the Russian Federation signed a protocol on the restoration and modernization of a Soviet-built metallurgical plant in Karachi, the Pakistani Embassy in Russia told RIA Novosti.
"Our agencies are in contact, the government of Pakistan has already submitted technical and commercial proposals to the Russian side. And I hope that the agreement on the construction of the plant will be signed during the Prime Minister's visit to Moscow," the ambassador said.
