OREANDA-NEWS  The new Russian MC-21 civil aircraft is a very good machine. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a direct line.

In his opinion, the airliner is completely competitive in world markets, and Russia has good traditions of both military and civil aircraft construction. The President stressed that the country needs modern domestic aircraft, as the increase in ticket prices is largely due to the shortage of foreign aircraft.

Separately, the head of state pointed out the need for a car for regional transportation. He did not specify which type of aircraft he was talking about — SJ-100 and IL-114-300 or Baikal. To date, none of these models has been certified, although the manufacturer promises to start deliveries of each of them in 2026.

As for the MC-21 aircraft, by the end of the year it had not completed a single flight in the configuration intended for airline supplies. Currently, certification tests are carried out on machines that use foreign equipment.

In November, it became known that the estimated flight range of the MS-21 would be reduced from 5,000 to 3,830 kilometers, which is one and a half times less than that of its foreign counterparts with comparable fuel consumption.

Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation (the parent company of the airliner's developer), took at least two years to develop a shortened version of the aircraft, which would increase flight range by significantly reducing the number of passengers.
