OREANDA-NEWS   Starting in 2035, Russia will be able to earn about $100 billion a year in the Arctic. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Regional Development, Alexei Chekunkov, in a conversation with Rossiya 24. Vesti.ru .

At the moment, the Arctic zone accounts for about 10 percent of Russian exports, Chekunkov said. It is expected that in nine to ten years, projects such as Vostok Oil, Novatek and Norilsk Nickel will contribute to increasing this share to 15-20 percent, he noted.

If these figures are reached by 2035, the volume of cargo transportation along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) will reach 200 million tons of cargo, the minister said. At a "rough" estimate, we are talking about about one hundred billion dollars a year, or one trillion dollars every decade, Chekunkov explained. "This is serious money by any measure," he stressed.

In early November, it became known about a decrease in Russian oil supplies via the NSR to Asia. The figures decreased by 4.2 percent to 1.83 million tons, which accounted for less than one percent of total exports, the Gekon consulting center estimated. At the same time, in 2024, there was a sharp increase in shipments via the Northern Sea Route — they added 30 percent, reaching 1.91 million tons.

Earlier, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said that Russia was preparing to cooperate with the United States in the Arctic.
