OREANDA-NEWS  Tokyo remains committed to solving the problem of the "northern territories". However, Japan notes difficulties in relations with Moscow.

Tokyo does not see conditions for discussing the prospects of concluding a peace treaty with Russia. Such a statement on Friday, December 2, was made by the head of the Japanese government Kishida.

The Prime Minister noted that the state of affairs in Japanese-Russian relations remains extremely difficult. Under these conditions, Kishida does not consider it possible to discuss a peace treaty, which Moscow and Tokyo did not conclude after the Second World War. The absence of this document, in particular, gives Japan grounds to make claims to the Kuril Islands.

However, the politician assured that Japan will continue to firmly adhere to the course of resolving the territorial issue and concluding a peace treaty.

In October, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said that Tokyo was extremely concerned about the likelihood of the use of nuclear weapons during the conflict in Ukraine, and also accused the Russian side of threats to use this type of weapons.
