OREANDA-NEWS  The Russian, whose name has not been disclosed, was deported from the Indonesian island of Bali after a three-year sentence for growing and selling marijuana, the Indonesian portal Detik reports.

"The Russian arrived in Indonesia in May 2017 on a tourist visa. On January 22, 2020, a Russian man and his wife were arrested for growing marijuana at home. They rented their housing from a local resident, and sold drugs to the same foreigners," the portal writes. It is clarified that law enforcement agencies learned about the violation of the law from local residents who reported to the police about "Russian foreigners growing and distributing cannabis."

During the search of the rented house, "six cans of marijuana, 14 pots of cannabis seeds and 14 sprouts in a small glass bowl were found." "The Russian's wife was sentenced to one year in prison and was deported some time ago. The sentence of a Russian citizen ended on May 18, 2023. He was transferred to the immigration bureau and deported," the portal writes.

Earlier, the director of the executive agency of the administration of the Indonesian island of Flores, Shana Fatina, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the increase in the number of deportations of Russian citizens from the Indonesian island of Bali is associated with an increase in the activity of local residents who send denunciations of "disobedient" foreigners to the authorities.
