OREANDA-NEWS The Cabinet of Ministers of Serbia on Monday recommended to the President of the country Aleksandar Vucic to dissolve the Assembly (parliament) and hold early parliamentary elections, the Serbian TV and radio channel RTS reports.

"Holding new parliamentary elections in the existing realities would ensure a higher degree of democracy, reducing tensions and inciting hatred in society, asserting the right to freely express opinions on certain political, economic and other issues," RTS quotes an excerpt from the message of the Serbian government.

The TV channel recalls that "recently in some public circles there have been demands regarding the holding of early elections, and on September 11 representatives of a number of opposition political parties sent such a request to the president of the country."

In addition, at a meeting on Monday, the government decided to dissolve the Belgrade Assembly and form the provisional council of the Serbian capital. Similar decisions have been made for another 64 cities in Serbia.

The Serbian President confirmed at the end of September that he intends to hold early parliamentary elections on December 17.

"The opposition demanded elections, it will get them. Let him prepare. The elections will be held in Belgrade (municipal elections - IF) and throughout Serbia," the head of state said at the time.

The previous parliamentary elections were held in Serbia in April 2022. They were won by Vucic's supporters.
