OREANDA-NEWS. The US is pushing for Indonesia to include Ukraine as a guest at the G20 summit in November and expresses disappointment at Jakarta's refusal to withdraw Russian President Vladimir Putin's invitation. Bloomberg writes about it.

Indonesia is said to be facing diplomatic rifts as host of the G20 this year, with Russia's special operation in Ukraine now in its third month. Recall that the Russian Federation is among the G20, along with China and India, which did not join the sanctions against Moscow.

Other G-7 representatives are now asking Jakarta, which has announced it intends to "remain impartial" as a rotating G20 chairman, to extend an invitation to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to attend at least part of the meeting, officials close to the matter say. However, the White House spokesman did not comment on this message.

The host country usually invites several countries to join certain aspects of the summit as observers, but they usually do not take part in official discussions.

According to the authors of the article, the inclusion of Zelensky would be an even bigger logistical and diplomatic nightmare for Indonesia if Putin decided to personally attend the summit on the tropical island of Bali. It is also unclear whether Indonesia will be able to organize the summit so that Putin and US President Joe Biden do not cross paths.
