OREANDA-NEWS The United States will immediately increase duties against Canada if it retaliates against American tariffs, US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday.

"Please explain to the Governor of Canada (Prime Minister Justin - ed.) Trudeau that when he imposes retaliatory duties against the United States, our retaliatory tariff will immediately increase by the same amount!" Trump said on his Truth Social network.

Trump has imposed 25 percent tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada since Tuesday.

Trudeau said earlier on Tuesday that Canada would impose duties of 25% on about $107 billion worth of American goods in response to the US measures. Duties of 25% will take effect immediately on goods worth 30 billion Canadian dollars (about 20 billion US dollars), measures for the remaining amount will take effect in 21 days, he explained.
