OREANDA-NEWS  Deputy Finance Minister Alexey Sazanov admitted a possible return to the tax on excess profits in Russia. He said this in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"If a hypothetical situation arises in the future when there will be such windfalls and the need to finance a large deficit, then, of course, this possibility cannot be denied," Sazanov explained. He added that it depends on the further development of the situation.

As the deputy minister noted, the tax appeared due to the fact that there were conjunctural windfalls for companies, as well as a significant budget deficit.

On June 26, the State Duma Committee on Budget and Taxes approved a bill on a tax on excess profits of large companies. The new tax rate will be 10 percent of the difference in profit for 2021-2022 over the same indicator for 2018-2019.
