OREANDA-NEWS  Boris Titov, the Commissioner for the Protection of the rights of entrepreneurs under the President of Russia, Chairman of the Russia-Cuba Business Council, said that in Cuba in the near future it will be possible to pay in rubles using the Mir card.

"We were informed that Cuban banks have adapted the Mir card for POS terminals. In the near future, the acceptance of payments on them, including ruble ones, will begin," Titov told reporters following his visit to Cuba.

During the trip, the Business Ombudsman met with Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, Prime Minister Marrero Cruz and the head of the Central Bank of Cuba Marta Gonzalez.

In the spring of 2023, it became known that the Russian Mir card could be used to withdraw cash from ATMs in the Cuban capital. The next stage, Titov noted, is full-fledged acquiring, that is, the ability to pay for goods and services directly with a card in Cuban restaurants and shops.

According to the commissioner, the Cuban authorities expect that the introduction of the Mir payment system will attract interest in this country from tourists from Russia.
