OREANDA-NEWS  The Russian government has not yet discussed the return of the windfall tax, the so-called windfall tax, and if there is a need for it, decisions will be made as part of the preparation of the federal budget for 2027-2029. Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Sazanov said this, refuting rumors about the possibility of such compensation for lost income this year, Interfax reports.

According to him, first it is necessary to form an expenditure base for the next three years and estimate the amount of income using an updated macro forecast prepared by the Ministry of Economic Development. Only then will the government make decisions about fine-tuning the tax system, if it is needed at all.

"There are no decisions on windfall tax yet, and this issue is not being discussed now," he assured.

Earlier, the head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Alexander Shokhin, said that the possibility of reusing the tax on excess profits of Russian companies in previous years was discussed at a March meeting of representatives of big business with President Vladimir Putin.

The future business ombudsman called the fact that companies do not have any super-profits their main problem. On the contrary, many are sitting at a loss and have difficulty coping even with mandatory payments.
