OREANDA-NEWS. The number of attacks on crypto exchanges in 2021 increased by 44% compared to 2020. This was reported to Gazeta.Ru by Positive Technologies, which specializes in cybersecurity.

The company, referring to Chainanalysis data, noted that in 2021, cybercriminals stole $14 billion from crypto exchanges.

“In attacks on crypto exchanges, attackers used vulnerabilities in communication protocols. Another method that is gaining popularity is the exploitation of web vulnerabilities on cryptoplatform websites,” the company said.

According to Positive Technologies forecasts, the number of attacks on crypto exchanges will continue to grow in 2022.

“All the costs and complexity of conducting an attack can fully pay off with the first successful hacking attempt,” the company explained.

On April 18, Central Bank Chairman Elvira Nabiullina announced a 20-fold increase in hacker attacks on Russian banks.

“The number of hacker attacks on banks has increased by more than 20 times. I must say that, in general, financial institutions withstood and could carry out all payment services without interruption,” the head of the Central Bank said.

Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia German Zubarev said that since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, the number of DDoS attacks on Russian credit institutions has increased by 22 times.
