OREANDA-NEWS. December 15, 2009. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, received on December 14 the visiting US Special Representative for North Korea Policy, Stephen Bosworth.

Bosworth briefed Lavrov about the main outcomes of the US-North Korean consultations on the Korean Peninsula nuclear problem held in Pyongyang on December 8. The Russian side expressed satisfaction with the reaffirmation by the DPRK at these consultations of its commitment to the goal of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, as set forth in the Six-Party Talks’ Joint Statement of September 29, 2005, as well as of the value of this negotiation format itself.

The sides spoke for an expeditious resumption of the six-party diplomatic process and, in particular, the activity of the Working Group on a Northeast Asia Peace and Security Mechanism.
