OREANDA-NEWS The probability of Russia's default due to the sanctions imposed against it by the West is extremely low, according to the head of the State Duma Committee on Industry and Trade Vladimir Gutenev. Earlier, the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva said about the risk of default of the Russian Federation. The parliamentarian said that the foundation was involved in a "psychological struggle" against Russia.

"The probability of this is extremely low, because even in relation to those countries that have taken so-called sanctions Russia and Russian business remain in the contractual field. And I think there are no economic prerequisites at the moment," Gutenev told RIA Novosti.

He suggested that the IMF leadership has joined the "psychological and economic struggle" against Russia, which "does them no credit." In this case, the fund's conclusions do not reflect either the real potential of the Russian economy or its sustainability.

The head of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, said in mid-March that unprecedented sanctions against Russia would slow down its economy.

The scenario with the default of the Russian Federation "no longer seems improbable," she added. At the same time, Georgieva stressed that the development of events may be influenced by how long the sanctions against Moscow will be in effect and whether it will be able to pay off debts.
