OREANDA-NEWS  Scientists from Omsk State Technical University (OmSTU) have designed a tug for space debris. This is reported by the publication "Continent Siberia" with reference to the press service of the university.

According to scientists, the space "cleaner" is twice as fast as foreign analogues and has a number of other features. The development is a pushing tow on a cable.

"If you untwist the upper stage – cable – OKM bundle relative to its center of mass, centrifugal forces stretch the upper stage and debris in opposite directions," said Valery Trushlyakov, a professor at OmSTU.

According to him, by applying the thrust of the upper stage in the direction of cable tension towards the OKM, it is possible to shift the entire bundle in the right direction. Thus, an additional inertial impulse comes out to simplify the movement.
