OREANDA-NEWS Google co-founder Sergey Brin said that he made many mistakes during the development of the company's first smart glasses. Brin spoke about this during the Google I/O 2025 conference.
The entrepreneur, who was president of Google's parent company Alphabet Inc., noted that he did not know many things when he led the development of Google Glass. This is also why the brand's first smart glasses failed on the market. Brin clarified that he did not understand how to make them cheaper for the consumer, and did not understand the supply chains of electronics.
The Google co-founder stated that he is a big fan of wearable gadgets, and is very pleased that this segment is developing rapidly now. Sergey Brin called artificial intelligence (AI) the main reason for the new interest in smart glasses. In his opinion, AI technologies significantly improve the capabilities of wearable devices.
51-year-old Brin also stressed that computer specialists and visionaries should not retire ahead of time, as they "should work on AI." The entrepreneur said that he himself had actually returned to work and was working on the Google Gemini neural network project.
Google Glass entered the market in 2014. The first smart glasses failed to sell, but became in demand in the corporate sector.
In early April, Google showed a prototype of smart glasses with simultaneous translation function. The gadget has a camera, two small displays and is capable of translating the foreign language of the interlocutor in real time.
