OREANDA-NEWS. Specialists of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), together with their colleagues, intend to begin developing the first fully autonomous underwater robot in Russia with a manipulator that can conduct research in the depths of the oceans, as well as on the shelf in extreme conditions of the Arctic, the FEFU press service said on Monday.

Now the design work begins, which according to the plan will have to last several years, after which it is necessary to create a test sample and test it in practice.  Tests according to the plans of developers should begin no later than 2022.

"A submarine robot will be able to perform complex tasks in conditions of total uncertainty. In particular, the robot will effectively carry out research work at great depths, and will also be able to function in arctic conditions. Thanks to the manipulator, the robot will cope with technological operations that require high accuracy," they say  engineers.
