OREANDA-NEWS. The project to modernize the Yaroslavskaya CHPP-2 of OAO "Territorial Generation Company No. 2" (TGC-2) has been completed, and a new cogeneration turbine was put into operation at the power plant.

The new turbine has a capacity of 115 MW of electricity and 1800 Gcal/h of heat. The turbine was manufactured by the Yekaterinburg-based Ural Turbine Plant, and the generator was made by OAO "ELSIB" based in Novosibirsk.

After the new turbine unit was brought on line, the installed capacity of CHPP-2 increased 55% to 325 MW from 210 MW. The station's heat capacity grew to 1,185 Gcal/h from 1,005 Gcal/h. The performance characteristics of the new turbine are significantly higher than those of the turbines currently in operation at CHPP-2. The new turbine is equipped with an automated process control system.

The new turbine at the Yaroslavskaya CHPP-2 will help address part of the energy shortages problem in the Yaroslavl Region and make the electricity supply in the area more reliable. It will help meet the existing and future demand for heat in Yaroslavl, which is on the rise due to the implementation of housing development projects and construction of public and business facilities.

The last time a turbine unit was put into operation at the Yaroslavskaya CHPP-2 was in December 1970. Today, the power plant has five turbine generating units, eight power boilers and two hot water boilers.
