OREANDA-NEWS. June 5, 2007. Logging and Timber Rafting Department, a subsidiary of Ilim Pulp Corporation, intends to spend RUB 15 898.3 thousand on reforestation works. Specifically, 8681 thousand roubles are to be spent on artificial reforestation, 2072 thousand roubles — on assisting natural renewal of forest. The figure is 50% up as compared to 2006.

The new 2007 vegetation period triggered active reforestation works on the forest lands leased by Logging and Timber Rafting Department. 938.4 hectares will undergo artificial reforestation, the area is 165.4 hectares more than in 2006. The works will receive a financing of RUB 12 222.2 thousand.

LTRD will spend 3 676.1 thousand RUB to assist natural renewal of forest, on the area of 1 940 hectares, 18 hectares up from the past year.

"Local forestries are carrying out reforestation works in favourable agrotechnical terms according to contractors’ agreements, with high chances for the establishment of the new plantation, which is a crucial factor for creating healthy pine plantation," — says Evgeny Nikolaev, head LTRD forest department, "the previous years demonstrated 85 — 87% establishment of forest plantation."
