OREANDA-NEWS. April 29, 2008. The management of Atomenergoprom has recognized the experience of TVEL in reforming its production as one of the best in the sector

In mid Apr the managers of the leading companies of Atomenergoprom OJSC, the nuclear defense sector and research institutes met for the first time to discuss the capacities and development prospects of the companies producing equipment for nuclear power plants.

The conference took place in Kolontayevo health center. the organizers of the conference were TVEL Corporation, Atomenergomash OJSC, Elemash OJSC and CNIITMASH OJSC.

The key topic was the preparedness of the national nuclear power equipment producers to carry out the national strategy for the large-scale construction of nuclear power plants. Among the other topics were ways to raise the efficiency of the use of the capacities of the nuclear industry, to enhance its competitiveness and to gain leadership on the global energy market.

The deputy director general of Atomenergoprom OJSC Kirill Komarov said that by 2020 Russia is planning to launch 26 nuclear reactors at home and 12 reactors abroad. By 2020 the national producers of nuclear power equipment are expected to receive contracts worth a total of 1.3trl RUR. In order to be able to meet this goal, the companies will have to carry out large-scale investment programs to enlarge their production capacities, to enhance the technological level of their products and to strengthen their competitive positions in Russia and abroad.”

In this light, Komarov pointed out the positive experience of TVEL in forming a new image, diversifying production, optimizing premises, improving quality, enhancing competitiveness at home and abroad. “As of today, TVEL is the only company we have effective cooperation with,” Komarov said.

President of TVEL Yuri Olenin said: “Presently, each of TVEL’s plants is implementing over a dozen of absolutely new, unique projects. We are doing big work to commercialize our technologies and to find consumers.” “The objective of this conference is to form an information framework for exchange of cooperation proposals and development plans and for intensifying cooperation among the companies of the sector.” Olenin suggested establishing a center – a kind of database for all the companies of the sector.
The conclusion of the conference is that it is necessary to enhance the efficiency of the use of the capacities of the national nuclear power equipment producers, to develop cooperation among them and to organize new types of production for the needs of the nuclear industry on the basis of the existing capacities.

The conferees pointed out the necessity of forming a coordinating committee for enhancing the efficiency of the use of the national nuclear power equipment producers, creating a database on their technologies, free capacities and current investment projects and the importance of developing horizontally integrated companies as a way to enhance the efficiency of the sector.

The conferees agreed to hold such seminars regularly.

Atomenergoprom OJSC (Atomny Energopromyshleny Kompleks) is a state holding that is supposed to comprise 89 nuclear companies and to cover the whole range of nuclear services: from uranium mining to NPP construction and electricity production. Atomenergoprom’s companies will have a total of 175,000 employees and an annual production of 200bln RUR (5.5bln EUR). Atomenergoprom is one of the biggest players on the world market: it has a 40% share in the world’s uranium enrichment services, 17% in nuclear fuel production, 8% in uranium mining, 28% in NPP construction (10 reactors). The director of Atomenergoprom is Vladimir Travin, the chairman of the board of directors – Sergey Kiriyenko.
