OREANDA-NEWS. June 9, 2008. The director general of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko took part in the Clean Nature ecological action that took part in Sosnovy Bor on June 8.

Together with 70 divers from different clubs of St.Petersburg and Leningrad region, Kiriyenko inspected the bottom of the Gulf of Finland near Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant. After diving Kiriyenko said: “You have quite clean bottom.” To note, in the area near Leningrad NPP the water is a bit warmer than in other areas of the Gulf of Finland due to the release of water used for cooling the plant’s turbines. That’s why this area is very popular among the local residents.

Kriyenko gave a press-conference right on the shore.

When asked to comment on the information attack on Leningrad NPP (when some sources spread rumors about an accident at the plant), Kiriyenko said:

“Calls, SMS messages, hacker attack on the web-sites of Rosenergoatom Concern and Leningrad NPP – this all was a well-planned provocation. I think that we must get used to dealing with such situations. Not all people like the dynamic development of our nuclear power industry. We must understand that in our work there are people who care for what we do and we must respect their views and timely inform them of our steps and there are people who are our rivals or opponents and are ready to make any provocation if paid. This is reality and we must learn to deal with it.”

“Leningrad NPP is planning to claim compensation from the authors of the provocation and wants the police to find them not because it wants a revenge but in order to show the mechanism of such provocations to people: so they understand who wants what and who pays what for what.”
