OREANDA-NEWS. June 20, 2008. AB Mazeikiu Nafta concluded an agreement for supply of a pilot shipment of new fuel to AB Lietuvos Elektrine.

AB Lietuvos Elektrine operates a thermal power plant where the first 20 thousand tons of emulsified fuel will be tested. This fuel is a brand-new product created by specialists of AB Mazeikiu Nafta and British Company Quadrise Fuels International.

Emulsified fuel oil will help to reduce demand of natural gas by AB Lietuvos Elektrine after shutdown of Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant.

The structure of emulsified fuel oil is similar to emulsified bitumen-based fuel, Orimulsion, earlier used by AB Lietuvos Elektrine. Emulsified fuel oil, made by AB Mazeikiu Nafta, consists of heavy fuel oil or similar fractions of the bottom of the barrel residue, having relatively high viscosity, and water. Water in this case is used to reduce viscosity of the emulsified fuel oil.

Company AB Lietuvos Energija intends to burn this brand-new fuel in Blocks No. 7 and 8 with total power of 600 MW, where installation of modern flue gas treatment equipment is almost completed.

Based on preliminary estimate, AB Mazeikiu Nafta would be able to produce about 350 thousand tons of emulsified fuel oil per year for AB Lietuvos Elektrine.
