OREANDA-NEWS. November 10, 2008. Russian satellite navigation system GLONASS will help the pilots to land the aircrafts in Koltsovo airport, Yekaterinburg. From Dec. 18, 2008, the airport will initiate a new procedure for landing, which involves GLONASS/GPS receivers. This was ordered by Roaviatsiya, and the Yekaterinburg`s airport bacame the third in Russia (after Domodedovo and Kurumoch) to fulfil this requirement. The measure represents one of the steps in the plan for the Russian avia-transport industry to meet international standards.

For the crews, it means that they will enhance the accuracy in piloting. In addition, this approach will increase the level of safety for the airplanes.

GLONASS and GPS systems are intended for positioning the objects by navigational devices. Space industry have been applying these system for a long time.
