OREANDA-NEWS. March 13, 2009. The key topic of the meeting will be the terms of the contract to reconstruct Harta Thermal Power Plant and the conditions for the continuation of the construction of Jusifija Thermal Power Plant, suspended in 2004 because of military actions in Iraq.

In Mar 2008 Technopromexport was granted the contract for the “turnkey” reconstruction of the 2nd and 3rd units of Harta TPP. The company won this right in a tender announced by the Ministry of Electricity of Iraq in Jan 2007. From Mar 2008 till Dec 2008 Technopromexport conducted pre-contract negotiations with representatives of the Ministry of Electricity of Iraq. The parties managed to coordinate most of the terms of the contract. But since the preliminary analysis had shown that the military actions had significantly damaged the equipment of the plant, the parties decided to inspect Harta to see how much additional equipment the plant might need.

The contract for the construction of Jusifija TPP (six 210MW units) was signed in June 1988 in the framework of the inter-governmental agreement between the USSR and Iraq. The project has been suspended thrice because of war since then with all of Technopromexport’s employees evacuated from the site. Nevertheless, the company has never stopped implementing the contract and continued delivering equipment to the plant. Presently, a group of experts of Technopromexport OJSC are inspecting the first three units (210MW each) of Jusifija.
