OREANDA-NEWS. On 20 April 2009 was announced, that in July and September 2009 Ukraine International Airlines will be the first airline in Ukraine to operate 2 new generation Boeing 737-800 aircrafts, delivered from Boeing plant in Seattle.

That will be the first new generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by the Ukrainian crew and maintained by UIA technical service.

The new generation 800s are equipped with the latest CFM (56-7B26) engines that feature a number of technical improvements ranging from lower fuel burn to increased reliability making the aircraft more efficient, environmentally friendly and easier to maintain. The aircrafts’ improved technical specifications and lower maintenance requirement increase range and utilization and make it possible to expand the number of direct flights available to Ukrainian passengers.

All future aircraft on the UIA fleet will come with ‘winglets’, (extended raised wingtip devices) that are designed to improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the aircraft by reducing drag allowing for further fuel savings, and, consequently, lower carbon emissions.

The airline intends to use the new aircraft with up to 189 passenger seats on high density routes including charter, popular leisure and high load scheduled destinations allowing for more efficient fleet utilization.

Two new Boeing 737-800 aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2010 as a part of UIA’s long term programme of fleet renewal and expansion.

The new aircraft with the very latest in aircraft and engine technology available in the world today will enhance UIA’s leadership position on the Ukrainian aviation market.
