OREANDA-NEWS. On 13 May 2009 was announced, that Lietuvos Energija completed Project on Optimization and Increasing Efficiency of Transport – the company fleet of passenger and cargo vehicles (i.e. trucks of up 3.5 tons) has been reduced by 28 per cent.

During the first quarter of this year the transport operation costs have been cut by LTL 113 thousand and accounted for LTL 140 thousand. Compared to Q1 2008, when expenditure totalled LTL 253 thousand, operation costs have dwindled by 44.7 per cent. In Q1 2009 expenses for fuel, compared to Q1 2008 went down by 43.5 per cent - from LTL 370 thousand to LTL 209 thousand.

“The project on optimization of passenger fleet is one of inclusive parts of the project on optimization of the company operations, related to the altered status of the company and set more stringent requirements for optimization of Lietuvos Energija operations”, - said Mr.Darius Masionis, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of Lietuvos Energija AB. According to him, the aim of this project is to cut down transport costs by one third. The maximum provision of transport has been sustained for those divisions that provide service to substations of Lietuvos Energija and ensure everyday operations of the company – uninterrupted supply of electricity", - said Mr. D. Masionis.

At the beginning of 2009 Lietuvos Energija owned 218 cars (61 cargo vehicles of up to 3.5 tons and 157 passenger cars). Subsequent to reduction of old and inefficient vehicles, currently the fleet retains 157 cars that are in operation, including 45 cargo and 112 passenger vehicles.

During the course of the project, separate Board decisions were systemized regarding management procedure of the transport and new regulation on procurement, lease and accounting of operation of cars and self-driven mechanisms of Lietuvos Energija was approved. This document defines the procedure on use and storage of vehicles, fuel accounting, technical maintenance and repairs of vehicles as well as payment for use of vehicles for personal aims.

The transport optimization and efficiency increasing is one of over 30 initiatives, that Lietuvos Energija undertook in 2008, a part of which have become projects of various duration and complexity, related to the altered company status and which were meant to optimize work, sustain and generate revenues, develop strategic projects and perform with social responsibility.

As of December 31, 2008 the company employed 967 people. The transmission grid divisions of Lietuvos Energija provided service to 6000 km and over 230 substations across the entire territory of Lithuania.
