OREANDA-NEWS. May 20, 2009. Mondi Syktyvkar started production of office paper certified in compliance with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards. The first brand to obtain certification is the famous Snegurochka.

The evaluation of the enterprise delivery chains in terms of meeting FSC standards was performed in December 2008 by auditors of NEPKon company which is the regional partner and official representative of Smartwood’s Rainforest Alliance program (USA).

The company started introducing FSC system in 2008. At that time, Mondi SLPK undertook some obligations in order to meet FSC requirements. Amongst them, there were obligations to deliver only certified products or products made of FSC-controlled wood; to procure wood preferably at certified suppliers; not to procure and use raw timber from uncontrolled sources.

This February auditors decided to broaden the effect of supply chain certificate by including not only timber delivery but also production.

Mondi SLPK OJSC belongs to Mondi Group and produces paper and packaging. Located in Syktyvkar (Komi, Russia), the plant specializes in production of office and offset papers as well as newsprint, top liner and kraft liner for corrugated board. The plant’s share on the market of office and offset paper in Russia and CIS countries is about 40%.

Mondi SLPK OJSC holding comprises eleven affiliate timber harvesting companies which operate on 2 million hectares of wood. Each year the affiliates harvest over 2 million cubic meters of timber, Mondi Syktyvkar mill receives about 1.5 million cubic meters of this volume, which is about 50% of the total raw timber volume consumed by the enterprise.
