OREANDA-NEWS. June 3–4 2009 a group of Ukrainian nuclear power engineers visited Udomlia (Tver region) in the framework of the program of long-term cooperation between NNEGC Energoatom (Ukraine) and Energoatom Concern OJSC. The guests met with representatives of Kurchatov Institute, Gidropress and Atomenergoproekt OJSC to discuss different aspects of NPP construction.

The key topic was the application of the results of the research and development activities under the NPP-2006 project, particularly the completion of the 4th unit of Kalinin NPP in Russia and the 3rd and 4th units of Khmelnitsky NPP in Ukraine.

“Today, we are following the global tendency and are planning to complete the construction of two units of Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant. We have thoroughly discussed the Russian NPP-2006 project. We have asked our colleagues to consult us on a number of solutions applied under this project and have received detailed answers to all of our questions. The experience of Kalinin NPP is really invaluable to us,” Director for Projects and Investments of Atomproektengineering of NNEGC Energoatom Gennady Sazonov said.

The cooperation agreement between NNECG Energoatom and Energoatom Concern was signed in 1998. “We operate similar equipment and similar infrastructure and we need such discussions,” Sazonov said.

Kalinin NPP is situated in the north of Tver region: 125 km away from Tver, 330 km from Moscow, 400 km from St.Petersburg, on the southern shore of Lake Udomlia. The total area of the plant is 287.37 h. The plant has three WWER-1000 reactors (1000 MW each). Kalinin NPP is part of the United Energy System of Central Russia. Its electricity is transmitted to eight regions via two 330KV and four 750KV lines. The 4th unit is under construction and is to be launched in 2011.
